Breast cancer is a prevalent malignancy in women worldwide, with a rising incidence rate. The complex etiology of breast cancer involves genetic predispositions, behavioral factors, and environmental exposures. This review highlights the importance of primary prevention strategies, including dietary modifications, exercise, and avoidance of tobacco and alcohol. A lacto-vegetarian diet, rich in fruits, vegetables, and pulses, may reduce breast cancer risk. Exercise has been shown to lower breast cancer risk by 12%. Chemoprevention using pharmaceutical or natural agents can prevent the development of invasive breast cancer. Understanding risk factors, such as familial history, genetic mutations, and reproductive factors, is crucial for breast cancer prevention. Self-care ability also plays a significant role in disease management and quality of life. This review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of breast cancer prevention strategies, emphasizing the importance of a multifaceted approach to reduce the risk of this disease.
