Abstract:

Bryophyllum pinnatum is traditionally used in the treatment of wounds, burns, and skin infections due to its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. The current study aims to develop a topical gel using its leaf extract and evaluate its antimicrobial efficacy and physical stability. Methanolic extract of Bryophyllum pinnatum was prepared using the maceration technique and incorporated into a Carbopol-based gel. The formulated gel was evaluated for physicochemical parameters such as pH, viscosity, spreadability, and antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Candida albicans. Results showed that the gel had good spreadability, stability, and demonstrated significant antimicrobial activity. These findings support the potential of Bryophyllum pinnatum as a natural alternative for topical antimicrobial therapy.
